January and after the two weeks break from training over the xmas period ,which also incorporated the owners and third party activation ,from the 2,530 pigeons that completed the loft orientation period and phase one of the training programme that went to a distance of 25 klm, just 74 pigeons failed to find new owners although the third party activation attracted an additional ten to twelve new syndicates and teams sadly thou the remaining pigeons not paid for will now regrettably be withdrawn from any further competition as per the rules of the Arona one loft race.

Jan 8th and with the pigeons basketed, the training programme resumes with training race 6 and a return to the 25klm liberation site for a planned 09.45 liberation anticipated ,with fanciers old and new from many countries once again re gathered on the live stream to watch the arrivals, it wasn’t long before the friendly banter amongst the regulars got underway which passes the time, as we await news of the liberation.

With the Arona team updating the progress of the convoy on site ,we were informed that the pigeons eventually got away at 10.20 into a light westerly wind and clear blue canarian skies above ,as usual the guess the time was going on with an average of 20 to 30 min being the most popular for the sighting of the first pigeon.

It was at 10.46 that the first birds were seen around the loft via the camera and when a single pigeon landed on top of the loft and after a slight stall ,he was soon accompanied by a large batch which landed and swiftly trapped through the electronic system to record the result ,so once again it shows that its not just being the first pigeon home in one loft racing , its crossing the finishing line that matters.
